Strengthening Presence in Europe’s Automation Market
Automated Industrial Robotics Inc. (“AIR” or the “Company”) is thrilled to announce its recent acquisition of Robotics & Drives, a prominent player in industrial automation based in Ireland. This strategic move enhances AIR’s capabilities in integrating advanced robotics solutions into its automated systems and broadens its product offerings across the European market. The acquisition was mainly financed by a significant investment from an Ares Management Private Equity fund.
Robotics & Drives
Established in 2005 by industry pioneers Ken McNevin, Stephen Nolan, and Sharon McNevin, RDS has built a solid reputation for delivering tailored robotics solutions that cater to diverse customer needs. The company’s mission focuses on enhancing quality, operational efficiency, and competitiveness across sectors such as Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), food and beverage, medical devices, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and industrial cloud solutions.
RDS operates from a modern 32,000-square-foot facility in Mullingar, which also functions as a comprehensive robotics training centre. With a dedicated team of approximately 50 skilled professionals, RDS ranks among Ireland’s largest providers of robotics solutions, offering both customised and standardised robotic products designed for easy installation and minimal downtime.
Integrating RDS’s Expertise with AIR
The acquisition of RDS significantly boosts AIR’s capabilities in robotic software development and systems design. By combining RDS’s technical know-how with AIR’s established engineering resources, the partnership aims to simplify procurement processes for a diverse range of clients. Furthermore, ongoing research and development initiatives will continue to drive innovation within RDS’s product line, benefiting customers across various industries.
Following the acquisition, AIR’s workforce has expanded to over 500 employees, and its automation hub now encompasses more than 300,000 square feet across locations in the United States, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
Leadership Changes to Support Growth
Alongside this acquisition, AIR is delighted to announce the appointment of Vivian Farrell as President of AIR, Ireland. Farrell, who previously served as the CEO of Modular Automation—acquired by AIR in 2023—will now oversee the execution of AIR’s growth strategy across all business units in Ireland, including both Modular and RDS.
Statements from Company Leaders
AIR’s Executive Chairman, Brian Klos, and Chief Executive Officer, Darragh de Stonndún, expressed their enthusiasm about the acquisition. “We recognise the growing demand for automated solutions and are excited to welcome the RDS team into the AIR family. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our vision for growth as we continue investing in talent, capabilities, and innovation.”
Ken McNevin, Managing Director of RDS, shared his optimism about the merger, stating, “We take pride in the strong position RDS has established in Ireland, driven by our technical expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction. Joining AIR will enable us to further enhance our offerings and customer service capabilities.”
Vivian Farrell also commented, “Having witnessed the positive impact of AIR’s resources and strategies, I am eager to lead Modular and collaborate with the RDS team to harness the increasing demand for automation solutions in Ireland.”
