Young Subaru, in collaboration with the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation, has launched an innovative initiative called “Take A Swing At Hunger” to address food insecurity among children in the Weber and Ogden school districts. The event runs from October 1 to 14 at the dealership’s location on Riverdale Road, offering a fun and engaging way for community members to contribute to a vital cause.
Participants can pay a fee of $5 to test their strength on a boxing arcade machine, with the individual who registers the hardest punch winning an iPad Pro. All proceeds from the entry fees will be donated to the local school districts, supporting children who experience hunger.
Justin Evrankaya, the general manager of Young Subaru, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “We’re excited to engage the community in this unique effort. This is a fun initiative, and we’re grateful for this opportunity to give back.”
The boxing machine will be available during all open hours of the dealership, allowing participants to purchase multiple attempts to throw a punch. Each swing opportunity helps provide food for a child for the weekend, highlighting the direct impact of the campaign. Additionally, donations can be made online through the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation’s website, thinkcaring.org.
The competition extends beyond individual participation; both Ogden and Weber school districts will compete to see who can raise the most money during the event. The winning district will receive an extra donation of $2,500 from Young Subaru and the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation, adding an element of friendly rivalry to the fundraising effort.
Evrankaya emphasised the importance of contributing to the wellbeing of children in the community: “Being involved in an effort that provides for children is always incredibly meaningful. Young Caring for Our Young, the Young Automotive Group, and our dealership believe that every child is entitled to the resources they need to craft a successful future, and we know that starts with food.”
The timing of “Take A Swing At Hunger” coincides with a significant milestone for the Young Automotive Group, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Founded by Seldon “Jack” Olsen in 1924, the company has grown from a single dealership to over 30 operations across three states.
Young Subaru became a part of the Young Automotive Group in 2011 and has since established itself as one of the highest-selling dealerships while also being recognised for its charitable efforts. In February, the dealership participated in the National Auto Dealer Association’s philanthropy pitch competition, where it was named one of the three finalists for its community involvement.
Evrankaya noted the rewarding nature of his work, saying, “One of the things I love most about my role is that I get to work with both Subaru and the Young Automotive Group. They’re two companies that are incredibly dedicated to giving back, and they’re focused on more than just the bottom line. Our team loves that we’re always encouraged to make a difference.”
This community-driven initiative not only offers a platform for local engagement but also aims to ensure that no child goes hungry in the area.
